COURSES / SEMINARY / SCHOOL OF FIQH
FIQH ‘IBADAH:
ZAKAT, SAWM AND HAJJ
Overview
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar narrated that The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Islam is built upon five. The testimony that there is no God except for Allah, and that Muhammad is The Messenger of Allah. The establishment of prayer. The accordance of charity. The pilgrimage. The fasting of Ramadhan.”
– (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Kitab Al-Iman)
Charity, being one of the key pillars of the practice and indication of one’s religion, is an intriguing concept in itself. With the obligation of charity conferred upon Muslims, questions arise with regards to the true worldview that Muslims should hold onto with regards to financial principles and philosophies, in light of Islamic law and ethics.
While memories of fasting are usually centred upon, and viewed as, an annual frenzy of food and prayer, there are intricate nuances within the discourse of Islamic law with regards to the pre-requisites, conditions and objectives of fasting. The legal and ethical intentions of the obligation of fasting are one for Muslims to truly comprehend, as we bridge the perceived divide between one’s physiological realities and spiritual realities.
Taking the next step in studying the fundamentals of Islamic law and practice, we look into the topics on charity, fasting and pilgrimage. Let’s learn the different facets of Fiqh, as we enhance our understanding of religious practice, one that manifests our faith and propels us towards success in this life and the next life.
