LEGISLATIVE HADITH:
BOOKS AND SELECTED READINGS

Overview

Abdullah ibn ‘Amr ibn Al-‘As said:
“I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ praying both barefooted and wearing sandals.”
– (Sunan Abi Dawud, Kitab As-Salah)

Thematic studies of Hadīth have coloured the lives of avid learners of The Sunnah ever since the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We have seen compilations of Hadith based on various topics, based on history, on virtues, on faith and more. In recent times, we have seen more of such compilations sprouting, serving to address current issues that matter to us.

One field of study that is heavily reliant on Hadīth, is none other than the inevitable discourse of Islamic law. Everyone wants to know the legal rulings of our actions, seeking to identify rationale and key objectives within the code of conduct revealed to us by God. That being said, it’s no surprise that books of Hadīth centred upon Islamic law are abundant for us to constantly discover and deliberately think through. Well, the study of Islamic law is built upon the foundations of Hadīth.

It’s time to rekindle the spark within our hearts, to identify the true genesis behind Fiqh, as we look into the books of Hadīth, attempting to decode the organic understanding of the de facto methodologies in Islamic law.
