Overview

Abu Hurayrah narrated that The Prophet ﷺ said: “There isn’t anything much more dearer to Allah, other than Du’a.”
[Al-Adab Al-Mufrad, Kitab Ad-Du’a]

Humanity has found new ways to interact within and amongst itself, through the advent of technology and its developments over the course of history. Today, we can connect to someone on the other side of the planet, with just a simple tap on our mobile devices. It’s that easy. But, how has humanity elevated itself to connect to God? What is the medium through which we communicate with God?

Our supplications to Allah, are the very essence of our servitude and worship towards Him. It is the mode of communication that enables us to share with God our concerns and emotions. Du’a is not the mundane process of memorizing Arabic phrases and uttering them in a manner of a solemn or rhythmic recital, expecting our condition to change instantly like a mystical chemical reaction of sorts. But rather, Du’a is when your heart and mind is focused in trying to express your innermost feelings and desperate needs towards The One Who Gives without any hesitation nor restraint, hopeful and positive that we will receive His Assistance, Guidance and Love.

The fundamental understanding of Du’a that we already have embedded within us, needs a little bit of refinement, so that we can truly experience the joy of reaching out to God through our hearts and minds, and thus, reap the benefits that enable us to appreciate the gracious gifts of God. Du’a is one of the foundational elements of our daily lives that spurs us on to better ourselves, to become grateful servants of Allah.

God ensures that we can always connect to Him, even when we may have strayed far away. There is always a way, when we call upon God. He responds to our calls, whoever we are, and whenever we reach out to Him. He doesn’t miss our calls, nor does He blue tick us. Apart from His constant availability and reachability for us to beseech Him, He has even allocated specified times within our days, weeks and months, during which He increases His connectivity and generosity in giving us what we ask Him for. God motivates us to seek Him and to speak to Him, as a sign of His Love for us, for truly, Du’a is a gift from God.
