Overview
Jabir ibn ‘Abdillah narrated that Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said: “The key to Paradise is The Prayer, and the key to The Prayer is The Ablution.”
– [Jami’ At-Tirmidhi, Kitab At-Taharah]
The Muslim individual is in need of The Sunnah, as a comprehensive guide to his or her daily life as a servant of God and of humanity. Encompassing the life and teachings of The Prophet ﷺ, books of Hadith serve as corpuses of Islamic studies that store The Sunnah in its textual form. The Hadith books may have recorded a wide canvas of events, advice and social interactions from the time of The Prophet ﷺ & The Righteous Predecessors, but seeking the wholesome understanding of The Sunnah from books, without knowing your way around, is a daunting task for the average Muslim individual.
Fret not, the scholars of Hadith have curated and written thematic collections, commentaries and compendiums of Prophetic narrations, that would bring us towards the direction we need to walk to. The books of Sunan are Hadith collections that are centred upon the study of Islamic law. The Sunnah, as a legislative authority in Islam, incorporates many, if not all, of the key discussions of Islamic law, general and specific. The Sunan books aim to compile and present to the Muslim community, the foundations and proofs for legal rulings and methodologies that has aided the development of Fiqh.
As keen seekers of knowledge interested in the study of Hadith and its role in the formulation of Fiqh, we explore the study of Islamic law, its reliance on The Sunnah, and more, all through the books of Sunan.
