THE DIVINE WORD:
MESSAGE & MESSENGER
Overview
Oh people of faith, have faith in Allah, and His Messenger, and the Book that He has revealed to His Messenger, and the Scriptures that He revealed before. And surely, whoever denies Allah, and His Angels, and His Books, and His Messengers, and The Last Day, no doubt, for sure, he has strayed away, gone far astray.
– [Surah An-Nisa-, Ayat 136]
Two of the core tenets of our faith are reliant upon our certain belief in Divine Revelation sent to humanity, and Messengers who were sent to educate us on the understandings and applications of God’s Revelation on Earth. It is fundamentally imperative for us to understand the purpose and role of revelation and those who were tasked by God, to guide us through revelation and reality. However, there are challenges against this very concept of Divine Revelation and Prophethood.
“Why would one need a Messenger when the Message is perfect?”, some might say. So, how do we understand the necessity of having Prophets in the history of humanity? What are the various objectives of both Divine Revelation and the Prophets sent by God? How do we signify the importance of having faith in the religious scriptures, and the Prophets of God?
The phases of the call to faith are marked by the lived legacies of God’s Messengers and the revelation of divine scripture. Literature and religion can never be parted, as God’s call towards faith and salvation necessarily engages the mind, with thoughts of the purpose and meaning of life and humanity. The Prophets embody the ideal manifestation of Divine Revelation, as it should be lived and enlivened. When The Divine Word has been set in place, we will see faith manifest in all its grace.
