Synopsis
‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas narrated that the Prophet ﷺ drew four lines on the ground and said (to his companions): “Do all of you know what these are?” They replied, “Only Allah and his Messenger know.” The Messenger ﷺ then said: “The best of women among the dwellers of Paradise are Khadijah bint Khuwailid, Fatimah bint Muhammad ﷺ, Maryam bint ‘Imran, and Asiyah bint Muzahim, the wife of Fir’aun.”

In this first instalment of a three part series unraveling the historical women in Islam who were promised heaven. We pay homage to the legacy of the fantastic four, as proclaimed by the Messenger ﷺ himself: The empowering wife, the devout daughter, the exalted mother and the unwavering spouse.
A fascinating commentary made by Mulla ‘Ali al-Qari in Mirqat al-Mafatih: when observing the usage of the phrase ‘sufficient for you’ in the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, “Sufficient for you among the women of mankind are Maryam bint ‘Imran, Khadijah bint Khuwailid, Fatimah bint Muhammad and Asiyah the wife of Fir’aun.” [at-Tirmizi]. He expounded the reasons why these women are ‘sufficient for us’ saying, “(The attempt) to attain the ranks of the perfect paragons is by following their example, mentioning their good deeds and their prosopography, their asceticism in this world and their aspirations for Al-‘Uqba (a grand ending).”
This course serves to provide a glimpse into the virtuous lives of these women and extract wisdom and inspiration from their enduring legacy and influence and ultimately reflecting what makes them the best of the best.
