THE READER: A MUSLIM’S
GUIDE TO BOOKS & GENRES

Your safety matters. Due to COVID-19, this MasterClass will be conducted online on Google Meet.

Overview

Anas ibn Malik narrated that The Prophet ﷺ said:
 “Tie knowledge with books.”
– [Taqyid Al-‘Ilm, Imam Al-Khatib Al-Baghdadi]

Our religion is one that has emphasized greatly, the significance and essential role of knowledge in our lives. It is here where we remind you, that God’s first revelation to the final messenger to mankind, was the command to read. And this command was upon one who was known to be unlettered. This reality shows us the imperative nature of knowledge in our tradition.

Knowledge is preserved through a number of methods, and the one way that seems the most accessible to us, is through the writing, reading and preservation of books. A seeker of knowledge is undoubtedly, by necessity, a lover of books.

But when you take that first step into a library, or a bookstore, you ought to be overwhelmed by the countless shelves, stretching all over the width and the height of the walls, labelled with genres and topics you might not even have heard of, or thought of before.

This MasterClass provides you with a general blueprint of the Islamic sciences, and the literature behind this map of Islamic academic heritage. There are many sciences that are accessible to us today through the books that are available at our very own local Muslim libraries and bookstores. But, where do you begin? Let’s figure it out together.

Points Of Discussion Include:

• The Full Blueprint: The Islamic Sciences Mapped Out
• How To Read A Book: Understanding Reading Methods
• Add To Cart Now: 21 Books Every Muslim Must Read
• Recommended Readings: For Every Science, For Every Level

Identifying and positing the various Islamic sciences are only the first steps you take when deciding which book you should read. Your reading method also plays a significant role in the journey of knowledge that you embark on when reading a book. It makes a whole lot of difference when you read a book, knowing how you can get the most benefit from it.

This MasterClass, we look at our books, our Islamic sciences, and our reading methods, to forge a long-lasting friendship with books, writers, and scholars, as we continue the legacy of reading. The legacy that began from our beloved, The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
