“The Messenger firmly believes in what has been revealed to him from his Master, and so do the believers. They all believe in Allah, His angels, His books, and His messengers. They proclaim: “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say: “We hear and we obey. We seek Your forgiveness, our Master! And to you, alone, is the final return.” – (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 285)

The Quran is known for its linguistic inimitability and astute use of the rhetorical tools of language. As a book, The Quran may seem disorganized and disjointed in its organization of information. Upon further study, one would realize the eccentric nature of The Quran’s content, presented through its palindromic structure of conveying the stories, rulings and principles of the religion.

Apart from The Quran’s exclusive set of defining features, of linguistic excellence and pedagogical brilliance, the tradition of the Prophet ﷺ also educates us on the divine merits and virtues of selected Ayats and Surahs in The Quran. For instance, the Prophet ﷺ, through a number of narrations, has recommended specific Ayats and Surahs to be read before going to sleep. One can also find Prophetic narrations which indicate a popular Ayat we know, to be the greatest Ayat of The Quran.

Beyond the many virtuous Ayats and Surahs of The Quran, the last two Ayats of Surah Al-Baqarah stands out as something remarkable in its own right. The Prophet ﷺ has narrated regarding its heavenly nature of revelation, while we also know of the human nature of his companions in their relationship with Allah, prior to the revelation of these two Ayats.

Abu Mas’ud Al-Ansari narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever recites the last two Ayats of Surah Al-Baqarah during the night, they shall suffice him.” – (Jami’ At-Tirmidhi)
