YASIN:
STUDYING THE OFT-READ

Overview

“By The Quran, rich in wisdom! You, Oh Prophet, are truly one of the messengers upon The Straight Path. This is a revelation from The Almighty, The Most Merciful, so that you may warn a people whose forefathers were not warned, and thus, are in a state of heedlessness.”

– [Surah Yasin, Ayat 2 – 6]

This is the chapter of The Quran that we are most familiar with, as a community. We memorize it by heart, and recite it, constantly. But our affiliation with this magnificent Surah of The Quran should not end there. We must study the verses of The Surah, to extract the most beautiful lessons from God, that will benefit us in our search for the truth.

There are crucial points of thought within Surah Yasin that will spark critical conversations on the theological and ethical imperatives that serve as foundations of the Muslim worldview. The Surah also invites readers to consider the realities of this world and the afterlife, to uphold the sense of responsibility and accountability that should be embedded within every human being, with the knowledge that justice shall always prevail, if not in this life, then, the next.

The centrality of the religion in our lives is manifest in every initiative we commit to. Our actions and reactions display the calibrations of our moral compass, attempting to portray the ethical worldview that The Quran wants us to embody. Surah Yasin actualizes our need for God, and our need for the knowledge of God, while highlighting The Might and The Control of God, and the reality of our substantial weakness as creations of God who will eventually return to our Creator.

Studying what we read often is crucial for us to reap the wholesome benefits of The Quran. Join us, as we study the oft-read, Surah Yasin.
