Overview
‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar narrated that while the people were praying Fajr at Quba mosque, someone came and said: “Allah has revealed to The Prophet ﷺ some Quranic instructions that you should now face The Ka’bah [while praying], so now, you should face it [The Ka’bah].” Upon hearing that, the people turned to face The Ka’bah.
– [Sahih Al-Bukhari, Kitab At-Tafsir]
A specific set of thinking tools and a nuanced study of divine scripture. The methodologies in understanding the interpretive words of Allah are vast and diverse. This has been manifest through the sheer variety of Tafsir books available and accessible to us today. Our focus in this penultimate module of the school, is to read and learn from the collection of Tafsir books that have adorned the study of The Quran over time.
These books of Tafsir have been written, shared, taught and referred to, for centuries upon centuries in Islamic history. Opening up new avenues of thought, while keeping in mind the divine, inimitable nature of The Quran, Tafsir studies and methodologies have been of particular interest to seekers of knowledge wanting to unearth the hidden gems from the everlasting miracle, The Quran.

With specific intents and purposes, these works serve to enlighten Muslims on the intricate nature of the Quran’s pedagogy in sciences such as law, linguistics, creed, history and more.
