COURSES / SEMINARY / SCHOOL OF QURAN
INTRODUCTION TO ‘ULUM AL-QURAN
Overview
“The month of Ramadhan is one which, in it, was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion…” – (Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat 185)
The month of revelation has just crossed us, and we are left alone, for ourselves to initiate a renewed enthusiasm for the study of the Quran.
A Muslim should never be disconnected from the Quran, just as a growing fetus is never disconnected from its caring mother. For us to establish a strong connection with the revelation of God, we need to be aware and well-informed of the nature of the Quran that we celebrate.
In helping us understand the Quran, the scholars of Quran throughout the entire history of Islamic academia have formulated sciences that seek to expound on the wisdoms and miracles of the Quran. Imam As-Suyuti wrote “Al-Itqan Fi ‘Ulum Al-Quran”, classifying the numerous different sciences of the Quran into 80 topics, ranging from linguistics and hermeneutics, to the study of analogy and coherence.
While there is so much to learn about the Quran, in terms of its meanings and recitations, we, as learners of the religion, ought to begin by understanding the general blueprint of the sciences of the Quran. This would help us formulate within ourselves a personalized syllabus that we can hold onto, as we begin our journey of learning the Quran. There are so many ways we can begin to learn the Quran. So, let’s take a sneak peek into those diverse sciences of the Quran.
Join us as we begin our journey towards the Quran, picking up from where we left off in Ramadhan.
